Abstract
Hypertension is one of the most prevalent disease worldwide. Hypertension can cause complications for several other diseases, such as heart disease, stroke and kidney. The prevalence of hypertension in North Sulawesi Province in 2016 was 38.36% or 73.108 cases and in Bolaang Mongondow District was 23.02% (381 cases). The purpose of this study was to analyze the causative factors of hypertension in West Passi District, Bolaang Mongondow Regency. This study applied observational analytic study using a cross sectional study design. The population was the entire population living in the West Passi District and with study sample of 94 people. The sampling technique was carried out by simple random sampling. Data analysis used the chi square statistical test. The results of the study indicated that obesity (ρ = 0.001), smoking habits (ρ = 0.037), and stress (ρ = 0.029) were the causative factors of hypertension. Therefore it can be concluded that obesity, smoking habits, and stress were the causative factors of hypertension in the community living in West Passi District Bolaang Mongondow Regency. There local people needs to make efforts to prevent and to implement a healthy lifestyle from an early age.
