N2 - Academic information system is a system used by an educational institution to run all the main business processes of educational activities. In the application of academic information systems, quality needs to be considered in order to gain a good performance for the system. Software quality standards determine the extent to which a system meets the needs set by all stakeholders. In academic information systems, quality may be influenced by design patterns which are implemented by the developer. This paper presents scientific evidences about the influence of design pattern application on software quality, especially through its implementation on academic information system. The module that is chosen for the design pattern application is the Equivalency module. It is the module to equalize student's grades between previous curriculum and current curriculum. This research compares the quality of legacy module-which is built without considering design patterns application- A nd target module-which is built using design patterns. The results indicate that design patterns affect the quality of the module in a significant degree.
