Abstract
In radial distribution networks the optimal placement and sizing of distribution generator is become a critical issue in term of stability improvement, reliability enhancement and power losses reduction. In this paper a Firefly optimization algorithm has been proposed to find the optimum location and size of the Distribution Generation (DG) using Renewable Energy (RE) resources, where the network will be supported by both real and reactive power generated by the RE like photovoltaic system (PV) and Wind Turbine (WT) in order to minimize the power losses due to the transmission, enhance the voltage profile, peak load demand minimization and cost reduction. The proposed method has been tested in a real radial system in a small city of Halhul, Palestine which Contains 67 buses supplied from the main grid. The result shows that the optimal location and sizing of the DG to be in bus 21, 49, 50, 37 and 38 0.406, 0.59, 0.64, 0.365 and 0.298 MW respectively.
