Abstract

This research analyzes the readiness of coastal areas in implementing the Intelligent City concept as an effort to improve climate resilience and environmental sustainability. This study focuses on Kenjeran Fisherman Village, a coastal area that is not far from the city center and has the potential for transformation towards smart city-based modernization. However, there are gaps in the pillars of sustainability aspects (social, economic, cultural, and environmental) with the surrounding areas. Limited access to technology, inadequate infrastructure, and lack of awareness of the importance of sustainability, affect the resilience of coastal areas in facing the threat of climate change. This study used a qualitative approach with data collection techniques including interviews with local communities, field observations, and literature review. The results show that the proximity of coastal areas to urban centers does not guarantee socio-economic welfare and environmental quality equivalent to urban areas. Special interventions are needed to design development strategies that can reduce these problems. The main focus of this research is the development of a contextual approach that combines local wisdom values with Intelligent City principles. This approach aims to encourage active community participation in planning and implementation, as well as utilizing technology to mitigate the impacts of climate change. Through the integration of intelligent city and local wisdom, this research is expected to contribute to the development of coastal areas that are more sustainable and adaptive to climate change.
