Abstract

Vertical public housing commonly known as Rusunawa in Indonesia primarily serves as accommodation for low-income residents. However, challenges have emerged suggesting that vertical housing does not currently resonate with the socioeconomic characteristics of its inhabitants, who are accustomed to living in landed housing. To address this concern, this paper aims to assess the relationship between the influence of socioeconomic factors on the sense of place level. This research adopts a quantitative approach. Quantitative data was collected from questionnaires distributed to 90 respondents in a vertical public housing as a case study. The data are then analyzed to determine the level of sense of place using SPSS through the cross-tabulation method. The findings reveal the significance of various socioeconomic factors in shaping residents' sense of place. Factors such as type of employment, education level, place of origin, ethnicity, and household composition emerge as influential determinants. This model serves as an extension framework for understanding the sense of place within the specific context of vertical public housing projects specifically in developing countries.
