N2 - The design, prototype fabrication, implementation, and road test of a Novel Ball Screw Regenerative Shock Absorber (BS-RESA) was carried out and reported in this paper. Ball screw mechanism converts the translational motions of the shock absorber into the rotational motion of the electric generator. The prototype was fabricated, implemented in the suspension system of a multipurpose vehicle and a road test was carried out. The road test was carried out at various vehicle speeds ranging from 5 km/h to 30 km/h, and on various road conditions: paving roads, speed bumps, and speed traps. The electrical load was represented by various restrictors of 15, 20, and 25 Ω. The maximum output power gained from the BS-RESA road test is 13.78 W on a speed bump at a vehicle speed of 15 km/h and a restrictor of 25 Ω. The maximum power yielded from BS-RESA on paving roads at a speed of 30 km/h and a restrictor of 20 Ω is 5.34 W. The detailed results are analyzed and discussed in detail in this paper.
