Abstract
Indonesia, as the most archipelagic country in the world, offers an abundant ocean energy resource, one of which is wave energy, especially on the shore. One concern regarding wave energy converters is the value of the torque that can be produced by relatively small devices that can provide sufficient energy for a small community on an island. This paper provides the study results of a wave energy converter that uses experiments and analytics to utilise the circular sector pendulum. This research examines the potential torque and power generated by a pendulum in a sector-type Wave Energy Converter (WEC) system with frame tilt angle and pendulum mass variations. The results show that the maximum exploitable torque is 1235.64 Nm at a frame tilt angle of 25°, a mass of 409.8 kg, and a deflection angle of 175°. At different frame tilt angles, the generated torque varies, with maximum torques of 999.99 Nm (20°), 756.73 Nm (15°), 507.71 Nm (10°), and 254.82 Nm (5°). The highest potential power generated was recorded at a frame tilt angle of 25°, a mass of 409.8 kg, and a deflection angle of 175°, amounting to 12.82 kW. This potential power decreases with the reduction of the frame tilt angle, respectively to 10.37 kW (20°), 7.8 kW (15°), 5.26 kW (10°), and 2.6 kW (5°), with an increase in the potential power of 1.2% to 2% for each increase in frame tilt angle.
