Abstract

Cellulose is a functional polymer that has gained significant attention due to its mechanical strength, biodegradability, and abundant availability. It can be processed into various forms and combined with other polymers to enhance its properties. In this study, cellulose derived from avocado seed waste was blended with gelatin to develop multifunctional biofilms. The primary objective was to investigate how different cellulose-to-gelatin ratios impact the properties of the resulting films. Cellulose-gelatin biofilms were synthesized by varying the formulation ratios, aiming to optimize mechanical performance, flexibility, and chemical interactions. The role of cellulose as a reinforcing agent was examined in each formulation, and the resulting biofilms were evaluated for their mechanical properties and chemical bonding. These findings highlight the influence of cellulose-to-gelatin ratio has a major impact on biofilm performance, with the cellulose and gelatin ratio of 1:1 formulation producing the most flexible material and offering broad industrial potential - especially in medical and healthcare contexts.
