Comparison of P&O and INC MPPT Performance Control for Photovoltaic Systems

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceeding › Conference contribution › peer-review

Abstract

MPPT is an important component of PV systems that maximizes the extracted energy under certain environmental conditions. This study presents a comparative analysis of the performance of the P&O and INC methods on a boost converter implemented through duty cycle adjustment. The system was tested using 315 Wp PV modules under standard (1000 W/m2 irradiance and 25°C temperature) and dynamic conditions. Absolute power error, MAPE, tracking efficiency, and system dynamic response. The MAPE values in standard/constant conditions are 6.6% and 13.9% using the P&O and INC methods, respectively. Meanwhile, in dynamic conditions, the MAPE values are 37.26% and 20.87% when the PNO and INC methods are used, respectively. These results show that the INC method outperforms the P&O method under dynamic conditions. The P & O method is more stable and has a smaller MAPE than the INC method under standard conditions.
