Abstract

A comparison of the most ideal transportation infrastructure to haul coal shows the possibility of using a railway for coal transportation. The comparison will be between alternatives using Railways, Highway, Belt conveyors, and the Waterway. The factors to be evaluated are the land acquisition, the investment cost, the maintenance cost, and the operational cost. The selection will be based on the most economical mode of transportation as a result of the total annual cost divided by annual production. Considering environmental problems and obstacles that may occur along the route, it is concluded that the railway will be the best option to serve this specific route.
