Abstract

The annual introduction of 8 million tons of plastic into oceans imperils marine ecosystems. Rivers, as conduits for terrestrial waste, contribute significantly to this marine contamination. To address this, we introduce "DeksaCleannect": a framework that integrates Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) for real-time riverine plastic detection and alerting. DeksaCleannect, when strategically deployed, paves the way for proactive interventions, reducing the reliance on after-the-fact cleanups. Merging the robust data acquisition of IoT with AI's analytical capabilities, the system fosters swift community and governmental response. This paper explores DeksaCleannect's design, potential ramifications, and an integrated strategy that spans from in-situ water monitoring to aerial observations, targeting comprehensive plastic pollution mitigation.
