Abstract

Modern vehicular radar systems are essential for road safety. This paper proposes a planar array antenna design operating at 76-77 GHz for long-range front-facing vehicular radar. This design uses 139 cross-linear Franklin elements along a thinned horizontal linear array to achieve a gain of 72 dBi, with a beamwidth of less than 1° and a sidelobe level of 25.37 dB. A 30.5% thinning on the horizontal array reduces the number of elements while maintaining high angular resolution.
