Abstract

Fish and fishery product (FFP) can be categorized as high perishable products that have specific requirements for storage and handling process. To ensure the quality of fish during distribution, the temperature of fish should be maintained in accordance with the requirement. Refrigerated container is designed to maintain the temperature of the fish during the distribution process. This study intends to design a refrigerated container to be mounted on a three-wheeler electric vehicle that was developed by Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS). This research uses the Theory of Resheniya Izobretatelskikh Zadatch (TRIZ) method which begins with in-depth interviews with fishmongers and refrigerated vehicle users and literature reviews. The next step is brainstorming with the refrigerated container product development team to determine the problem attributes. Technical responses were formed and the contradictions between the technical responses were analyzed using the TRIZ method. The result of this study is a design of a passively cooled refrigerated container for a three-wheeler electric vehicle using cold thermal energy storage (TES) system with a plate containing phase change material (PCM) to store cold energy. This refrigerated container uses polyurethane as the insulator which is covered by an aluminum plate.
