Abstract

Video streaming is one of the most frequent activities done by smartphone users. Currently, there are a few torrent applications available that offer video streaming features. However, the features still have some weaknesses, such as unplayable videos at times and a quite long buffering time when opening the video for the first time or when seeking (skipping) to certain seconds in the video. This research focuses on creating a video streaming application that can minimize the buffering time when playing the streaming video. The method used is combining a torrent (libtorrent4j) library with a video player (Exoplayer) library so that the player will play videos by directly reading the content of the video files. The data from the experiment results show that this solution can play streaming videos, seek to specific seconds, and minimize buffering time up to 33% when playing streaming videos and 67% when seeking videos.
