Abstract

Due to its citizen's struggle to overcome the city environmental problems, Kitakyushu City of Fukuoka, Japan, was selected as an environmental model city in 2008. Being one of the global most famous cities in the environment conservation, Kitakyushu City has proposed a model of smart community in the Higashida District. The ecological house or more popular with eco-house is part of the smart community project. This model house was built with a passive design concept which utilized to maximize the natural light and the airflow into the house. In addition, some advanced energy-saving technologies such as hydrogen fuel cells and heat transfer solar panels are also used. This study aims to conduct an investigation on people lifestyle and home energy consumption in eco-house model of Kitakyushu (north area of Kyushu). In this study, the energy use behavior based on field measurement in different seasons will be presented.
