Abstract

The fibers of abaca banana were alkalized with the NaOH and CH3COOH as reinforcement of the composites. This study aims to determine the mechanical and morphological properties of the abaca banana fibers composites with a semi-metal matrix. The effects of variation concentrations acetic acid (CH3COOH) are 34, 44, and 51%, to the each of volume fractions filler 5, 10, and 15% have a evorated. Before alkalization process the fibers have solutade using acetic acid, with sodium hydroxia (NaOH) to remove lignin and hemicellulosa with a concentration of 0.5% for 2 hours. After that the all of fibers can be alkalized with acetic acid (CH3COOH) for 2 hours. The composites was made with two kinds orientation fibers the first longitudinal orientation and the second transversal orientation, were consist of the matrix from semi-metal and natural fibers abaca reinforcement. The results have shown that the maximum modulus of elasticity was achieved by composites with acetic acid (CH3COOH) in the longitudinal orientation with 34% Vf 15% and transverse orientations with 51% Vf 5%.
