Ergonomics Assessment for Filipino Office Employees Working from Home due to Covid19

Abstract

Covid19 pandemic enforced companies to allow office employees to work from home. Many of them were provided only laptop, in where individuals need to setup their own work environments. As a result, many of them encounter musculoskeletal discomfort while working. Based on 30 participants of the assessment using CMDQ (Cornell Musculoskeletal Disorder Questionnaire) and RULA (Rapid Upper Limb Assessment). Most discomfort score were from Lower back with 11.17%, Neck with 10.62%, Upper Back with 9.49%, and Wrist (Right) with 8.11%. While in hands symptoms the discomfort is mostly in Area F (lower palm) with 271 (35.59%), Area A (index, middle, and ring) with 179.5 (23.57%), and Area D (upper palm) with 87 (11.42%). In RULA there are also 10% of the participants that requires implementation of change in their posture. If working from home will continue, office employees and management needs to be aware of the physical ergonomics to lessen the musculoskeletal disorder (MDS) and improve the posture.
