Evaluation Method for Selection of OATS Location for EV Radiated Emission Measurement Based on Electromagnetic Field Scanning

Abstract

The need to test modules or electric vehicles for manufacturers is critical to ensure that their products are safe for users. Constraints of building testing room facilities that meet the standard requirements are costly and often encountered by manufacturers. A Radiated Emission (RE) electromagnetic compatibility testing of a small Autonomous Electric Vehicle (AEV) already requires at least a 10 m EMC chamber with a 3 m turning floor. A regular size AEV requires a more significant EMC chamber dimension, which is not always available. Therefore, measurements of AEV in Open Area Test Sites (OATS) for RE pre-compliance testing are preferable. This paper proposed an evaluation method to choose an OATS location for AEV RE pre-compliance testing by considering the proposed locations' electromagnetic (EM) conditions. The limit of CISPR 25 is used as a reference for the allowed EM emission of AEV. The proposed evaluation method consists of two steps; the first step is to perform EM field scanning in every alternative OATS location for the frequency ranges given in CISPR 25. The second step is to identify the measured EM field frequency, which has an EM field value of 6 dB higher than the limit shown in CISPR 25. This paper proposes an evaluation method for determining the location of radiation emission testing for electric vehicles by scanning electromagnetic fields. The initial studies that have been done show that it is possible to carry out pre-compliance testing using the proposed method with certain conditions.
