Abstract

Rice is one of the most essential food crops in Indonesia, with numerous cultivated rice varieties displaying diverse morphological characteristics and production potentials. Previous research has investigated various treatments designed to enhance rice quality and productivity, including the use of bioactive substances and antimitotic compounds. This experimental study aimed to examine the influence of selected herbal-based antimitotic agents on the early developmental stages of four rice varieties: Ciherang, Cibogo, F4 Sb × Cb, and F4 Sb × Ch. The research involved preparing extracts, immersing seeds in multiple concentrations of the compounds, planting, and subsequent growth observations. Parameters assessed included germination normality, plumule development, and early vegetative growth, particularly plant height. The treatments utilized extracts derived from Sungsang flower tubers, Tapak Dara leaves, and Tapak Liman leaves, each exhibiting distinct biochemical properties. The findings revealed that the rice varieties responded differently to the treatments, indicating variation in tolerance levels and adaptive physiological mechanisms. Some combinations of extract type and concentration stimulated early growth, while others inhibited germination or plumule elongation, suggesting complex interactions between plant metabolic pathways and the administered antimitotic agents. Overall, the study highlights the potential of natural antimitotic compounds as environmentally friendly bioactive regulators that can influence early rice development. Further research focusing on the generative phase, yield performance, and molecular responses is necessary to optimize their practical application in sustainable rice cultivation.
