Abstract

This study aims to explore how frugal innovation (FI) is needed in developing countries and how FI plays a vital role in the business model so that it can contribute to sustainable development. A qualitative approach was used to analyze the data. Data were collected using in-depth interviews with 7 micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in developing countries. By exploring 7 cases of FI, this study contributes to the literature about the role of FI in sustainability. The findings reveal how MSMEs entrepreneurs apply the FI strategy to overcome problems so that they can continue to meet the needs of customers in a developing country.
