Abstract
The increasing global issue of garbage production poses significant environmental and human health risks. Banyuwangi City, Indonesia, faces a substantial garbage production. The collection and transportation stages in garbage management incur high costs, accounting for 40 to 60 percent of total garbage management expenses. Inadequate consideration of distance saving in garbage collection and transportation routes by the Environmental Agency of Banyuwangi leads to inefficiencies in the process. To address these challenges, this research proposes using the Hybrid Firefly Algorithm (HFA), a combination of the Firefly Algorithm and Adaptive Iterated Local Search, to optimize garbage transportation routes for resource efficiency. The HFA-generated route is compared with those determined by the Genetic Algorithm and the Environmental Agency. The findings indicate that the suggested method surpasses both the Genetic Algorithm and the route specified by the agency. This research offers a superior and more efficient strategy for garbage transportation in Banyuwangi City.
