Abstract

This study examines the optimal strategy for analyzing decision-making related to forced outages resulting from flaws in the steam turbine shaft rotor. This study offers significant insights into the mechanism for determining forced outages in current coal-fired power plant systems. The provisional cessation of steam turbine operations at a major power facility, prompted by severe abrasions on the Shaft Rotor Journal, has elicited apprehensions over possible future malfunctions and considerable disturbances inside the power plant. This study is to evaluate the structural integrity and safety of the scratched turbine rotor shaft using thorough strength analysis. It highlights the significance of understanding the mechanisms leading to forced outages and employs a multifaceted approach to evaluate the structural integrity and safety of scratched turbine rotor shafts. Utilizing Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and fatigue analysis, alongside visual inspections and non-destructive testing methodologies, the research aims to provide accurate and rapid evaluations that inform decisionmaking for the repair or replacement of turbine shafts. This study is highly beneficial for accurate and rapid evaluations. Additionally, the study seeks to develop techniques to mitigate production losses during downtime, ultimately contributing valuable insights for the operational management of coal-fired power plants.
