abstract = "This paper discusses results derived from linear subarray synthesis with focus on realizing wide angular scanning patterns. The subarray synthesis is performed using the Fourier transform method applied on a small broadside linear array. The desired wide-beamwidth pattern of the subarray is approximated by a square root cosine theta pattern. This pattern satisfies the requirements for wide angular scanning phased array antenna applications due to its needed wide 3-dB beamwidth of around ±60°. By using such subarray pattern characteristic, the total phased array antenna pattern is shown to have only slight performance degradation in the maximum scan angle.",
