Abstract

The paper provides a case study on maneuvering safety analysis of LNG carriers in a developing port area. An LNG carrier with the capacity of131,000 m3 and a small scale LNG carrier of 12,000 m3 will be considered to enter a new port in a developing port area located near to the Malaka Strait. The study is required to assess the safety index of the ship in the area and to determine the required number and capacity of tugboats. The safety index of environment stress method and the maneuvering simulation of MMG model is implemented to evaluate solve the problem. The study shows that the safety index of vessels is in the condition of negligible to maneuver at the anchorage area of the existing port and enter the new port.
