Abstract

Developments in medical technology are leading to sophistication, higher efficiency, and full automation. A complete and accurate automatic recording of the patient's condition in the inpatient room is required to be sent and examined by the nurse on duty at the nurse station. The application of WBAN in the hospital ICU can be influenced by various factors. One is that dynamic environmental factors, including temperature, humidity, and reflective objects, can affect radio propagation. There are many paths on the propagation channel indoors, so it is necessary to characterize the channel in order to obtain an optimal communication system design. This study discusses (a) the radio channel between the inpatient room and the nurse station server. Measurements were taken in two rooms representing the inpatient room and the nurse's room. Channel frequency at 3 GHz, bandwidth 200 MHz; and (b) channel modeling with various scenarios while the patient is sleeping in the ICU. Scenario with two classifications of orientation: antennae and body position while the patient is sleeping. Each scenario is measured by the VNA in order to capture channel response. Data analysis and processing were carried out using statistical parameters, namely the mean, variance, and standard deviation. The result is useful for indoor WBAN communication system recommendation.
