Abstract

The main purpose of power system operation is to determine the optimum power generation scheduling of generator units in order to meet the load demand without violating the prescribed constraints. Furthermore, the computation time has to be as short as possible because the interval of the scheduling is an hour. This paper proposes the application of Multi Dimension of Coarse to Fine Search method to solve the economic dispatch problem on large scale power system. This method is very simple, fast, and always convergent. This method runs based on the repetition of the searching process for the best candidate of a feasible area. Some candidates are spread on a feasible area and the best candidate will be chosen among them. After that, the smaller feasible area around the previous best candidate will be determined. The same process is repeated until a very small feasible area—where its best candidate can be accepted as the point of convergence—is obtained. As a validation proof, this method has been tested with daily load on the Large-Scale Power System, 47 generators units, 63 buses of 500 kV Java-Bali Power System. The result indicates that the proposed method can be applied to the power system so that the system can work fast and accurately with accuracy level above 99.8%.
