Abstract

Mutual coupling between antenna elements becomes an issue in the development of antenna structures for compact terminal devices. In this paper, a design of an antenna array structure using a meander line slot is proposed. The basic antenna element of the proposed structure uses an aperture coupled microstrip antenna with a meander line structure. This antenna consists of two substrate layers which are separated by a common ground plane. The meander line slot structure is etched in the patch element of the antenna structure to reduce mutual coupling between adjacent elements. By using this method, not only the mutual coupling, but also the size of the patch element is reduced and the antenna bandwidth is increased.
