Abstract

Nowadays, multimedia applications get more complicated and therefore required High Performance Computation (HPC). Fully dedicated computer cluster is one of the answers, anyhow the price is relatively expensive and we have to spend more space and electric power arrangement for the computer cluster. To address these requirements, we implement a Campus Grid network using educational terminal which are not used during night time. We employ the educational computers as cluster slave on Electrical Engineering Department ITS (EED) and Electrical Engineering Polytechnic ITS Surabaya (EEPIS). A Grid management system is design to be automatically switched to Grid clusters slave and switched back to educational terminal. To avoid program crash a checkpoint procedure is implemented using Globus and Condor software. Two HPC applications have been implemented into this GRID system. Experimental results demonstrate that the Grid can improve the speedup factor at max 8 times.
