abstract = "Using FSO communication systems is one way of energy efficiency on WSN (Wireless Sensor Network). Focus of this study is concerned with the design of WSN devices using optical communications especially FSO Infrared. Light energy that used to send information was designed to spread in all directions. Design of communication systems on this study was include RX and TX. From the test results, measurement and analysis has been conducted, the results showed that the communication system that has been designed able to transmit and receive information at a distance of 15 meters with an ideal percentage of BER 0%. While if when compared to the Link Budget analysis, theoretically the system can transmit and receive data information of up to 25 meters. TSOP 34838 in fact is 60% from technical specification on datasheet component. Then from the observation using the oscilloscope, rising value of BER is not only caused by air molecule attenuation that able to interrupt information transmission process, but also the reflection which can shift pulse of bits at the receiver. The test result establish that the system design is appropriate when used for short range WSN network without involves complicated pointing process.",
