Abstract

In the protection system, the setting of OCRs must be careful coordinated with another protective devices to ensure proper operation and minimize the risk of a false trip. The coordination of OCRs involves selecting appropriate settings such as TDS and TCC curve type. However, the complexity of the system plan, especially in the industrial, required these settings to be optimized aiming to reach the optimum and reliable protection quality. Therefore, a better version of PSO called the modified particle swarm optimization algorithm (MPSO) is proposed in this paper to determine the optimum OCR setting for application in an actual industrial power system called PT. Pupuk Sriwidjaja (P1B). As a result, the proposed algorithm has successfully achieved the optimum relay setting with a fast convergence compared to the basic PSO.
