Abstract
Independence of support components in the maritime sector is essential in Indonesia. Propellers are one of the most sought-after marine components. This study aims to evaluate the realization of a marine propeller using CFD (Computational Fluid Element) simulations and ANSYS software, focusing on the influence of design parameters and structural decisions on the hydrodynamic efficiency. The propeller is modelled using a copper-nickel alloy (Cu-Ni), chosen for its excellent resistance to erosion in marine conditions and good mechanical properties. This choice of fabric improves the life and resistance of the propeller, especially in unforgiving seawater conditions. The examination is carried out without mechanical testing, focusing exclusively on the flow of the liquid and the hydrodynamic interaction between the propeller and the seawater. Key design parameters such as edge shape, pitch point, number of edges and rotational speed are varied to determine their impact on propeller performance and overall efficiency. CFD playback shows that changes to these design parameters typically affect weight transfer, wake design and flow velocities around the propeller, leading to changes in thrust production, cavitation and fuel utilisation. The study also investigates the impact of these components on the overall hydrodynamic performance of the drive system. The simulation results show that Cu-Ni Alloy is an excellent material for maritime propellers, thanks to its strong resistance to corrosion and ability to handle dynamic loads. With optimized design and casting processes, the propeller achieves high quality and durability, making it well-suited for tough marine environments.
