N2 - Solar energy utilization in the tropics is potential due to solar radiation throughout the year. High irradiation will produce high electricity. However, the increase in temperature of the PV panel causes a decrease in efficiency. Maintaining its performance required a cooling system. Phase Change Material (PCM) is a material that is widely used as a coolant. This research shows the performance of PV panels during the rainy season. The passive cooling system from an aluminum back sheet with side 3 cm hexagonal fins inside combined with Phase Change Material (PCM) works to reduce the temperature of the PV panel. The kind of PCM that is used is paraffin wax. The cooling system's performance will investigate by reducing PV panel temperature and electricity. Measurements were made in rainy and dry season. From experiment, it is known that PV panel will reduce the efficiency when it reach >48°C. In rainy season, the temperature of PV panel can reach 54.26°C and the PV panel with the cooling back sheet is only 48.42°C. The difference in electric power between them is 1.187% higher for the PV panel with the cooler back sheet. In dry season whereas solar irradiation is high, the PV panel rise up to 61.53°C and the PV panel with the cooling back sheet is 51.4°C. The electricity of PV with cooling back sheet is 2.02% higher than PV without back sheet.
