title = "Performance of various combining techniques and adaptive coded modulation in millimeter-wave fixed cellular systems under the impact of rain attenuation in Indonesia",
abstract = "The significant propagation factor effecting the link availability and channel capacity of millimeter-wave fixed cellular systems operating at 30 GHz frequencies is rain attenuation. Adaptive coded modulation and combining techniques are methods to increase link availability and channel capacity for these systems. The aim of this paper is to present the performance evaluation of these systems. The results of simulation study by using the rain fading compensation method show that performance of the systems are guaranteed to have signal reception quality with maximum BER 10-6 in 2 km link length. The performance also shows that the link availability is 99.99% by using both selection combining (SC) and maximal ratio combining (MRC). The results also show that the channel capacities are 3.648 bps/Hz for SC and 3.653 bps/Hz for MRC. Additionally, the simulation study shows that diversity gain of MRC is better approximately 1 dB than SC at 0.01% outage probability.",
