Abstract

Technological progress not only has a positive impact in the form of ease of obtaining information but also carries risks, such as fear of the spread of personal data. In this study, we analyzed the distribution of personal data on the surface of the web under the Personal Data Protection Act (PDP) in Indonesia. This research aims as a preventive effort on the importance of maintaining data privacy and being careful in sharing it, as well as preventing misuse by irresponsible parties. The data were retrieved manually through a quick search using 10 keywords on 3000 websites listed on Google, Yahoo, and Bing search engines. Furthermore, data visualization was performed to observe the distribution of data based on privacy policy factors, file types, website types, and robots.txt configurations on the website. A total of 137 websites break PDP acts: 38 websites with a privacy policy and 99 without a privacy policy. Only 52 websites have a robots.txt configuration, but the robots.txt configuration is still in default.
