Abstract

Trackforms and supporting infrastructure are key components of high-speed railways and their construction needs to embrace modern technologies to ensure quality and long-term performance. This paper presents a comprehensive review of the key aspects of the construction of superstructure and track infrastructure for the high-speed railway (HSR) in Indonesia. It starts with an overview of the HSR line, recognised as the first in Southeast Asia, and describes the installation methods for the full-span prestressed concrete box girders of the elevated structure, which constitutes a considerable portion of the HSR line. Key challenges such as complex topography and high population density, and their implications on the design and construction of the HSR line, are highlighted. The paper then explores the two types of trackform systems used in the HSR line (ballasted track and slab track), focusing on the construction process, along with the advantages and disadvantages of each trackform system when applied to different sections of the HSR line. Finally, the paper concludes by highlighting the need for further research and development to support the operation and maintenance of the existing line, as well as its planned future extensions.
