Abstract

In this study, a simple coating technique to enhance the selectivity performance of P84 co-polyimide hollow fiber polymer membrane was investigated. The hollow fiber membrane was coated with polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) to prevent gas flow through the defect surface. The prepared membranes were characterized using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and pure gas permeation measurement. The pure gas of O2 and N2 were used to determine the permeation properties of the hollow fiber membrane. The single gas measurement showed that the perm-selectivity of O2/N2 of the hollow fiber membrane increased up to 181% after the coating treatment. It is concluded that the simple coating technique has significant effect in enhancing the selectivity performance of the hollow fiber membrane.
