Abstract

Stator fault of induction motor is one of the most common faults in industries. Fault detection in early stage of fault is importance to avoid catastrophic failure. This paper is concerned to analysis the behavior incipient stator fault that defined as high impedance and short time turn to turn short circuit. Mathematical model of induction motor with turn fault is developed to understanding the machine performance under fault operation. Moreover, detection system based on transient current during fault occurring is designed. Discrete wavelet transform is used to obtain the high frequency signal that used as detection parameter. The result shows that the proposed method can detect the temporary short circuit fault, even though the fault has high impedance and low current short circuit.
