Study on pro-active waste-bank to collect domestic solid waste using application – Case study Kelurahan Gundih of Surabaya, Indonesia

Abstract

In a conventional bank, bank is a place to save money. Waste-banks are place to save reusable and recyclable domestic waste rather than to save money. There were more than 180 wastebanks in Surabaya by 2015. The objective of this assessment is to study the possibility of using android application to collect reusable and recyclable waste in order to minimize disposing municipal waste to the final landfill site of TPA Benowo of Surabaya City. The assessment was conducted at Kelurahan Gundih of Kecamatan Bubutan of Surabaya, especially at RW 4, 5, and 10. Eighty respondents of adults were randomly selected for using Android hand phone to get to know the possibility of using waste-bank application which was being developed. Respondents were also asked for other related issues of domestic solid waste to be collected and recycled. Waste-bank of Tanjung Mandiri will take a profit by having of one chart of IDR 8,400,000. If another chart is again provided, then the profit would be IDR 22,300,000.
