Abstract

A series of tank tests were conducted to compare the hydrodynamic performances of single and twin strut SWATH models with forward speeds. The measurements were the added resistance in regular head waves of frequency of 0.3 to 1.6 Hz together with associated dynamic responses(heaving, pitching and surging) and steady responses(sinkage and trim). Also, stationary tests were performed to measure the motion responses for the two models in head, quartering and beam seas. The measurements of the bending moment at the cross deck mid-section of both models in beam seas were included. Some of these hydrodynamic properties for both models are compared with the computational results based on a 3-D diffraction theory. The main purpose of this paper is to compare the single and twin strut SWATH ship from the hydrodynamic performance point of view.
