N2 - The published work of Werner in 1893 that NH3 molecules and Cl- ions at the CoCl3.3NH3 are bonded or coordinated at the Co3+ ion at a certain position raised awareness of the chemistry community to explore complex compounds further. Due to its potential application in many areas, including photography, colouring agents, metal purification, medicine, catalyst and others, research in this area has been one of the prime interests of chemists worldwide. This paper describes the studies of complex compounds among Indonesian scholars regarding their synthesis, characterization and potential application. We limit the study to the published studies in Indonesian journals that the National Body of Journal Accreditation Republic of Indonesia has accredited with Grade Sinta 1, Sinta 2 and Sinta 3 (out of 6). We found that the work in complex compound synthesis published in Indonesian journals is still limited. Among those studies, only a small portion proceeded to explore the potential application of the compounds further. This limited number could also be rooted that Indonesian scholars prefer to submit their work in international journals. On the basis of this result, we suggest Indonesian researchers publish their worth works in Indonesian Journals to provide a better opportunity for the Indonesian community for getting access to the works.
