Abstract
Indonesia, as the world's largest archipelagic nation, faces growing demand for reliable and decentralised energy infrastructure, particularly in newly developed coastal industrial zones. This study proposes the design of a Barge-Mounted Floating Nuclear Power Plant (FNPP) as a strategic solution to meet the projected power demand of over 200 MW for the upcoming Tanjung Carat Industrial Port Zone in South Sumatra. The plant utilises 8 modular KLT-40S reactors, each coupled with Siemens SGT-800 turbines, delivering a combined output of 168 MW. The barge design, with an estimated DWT of 50,000 tons, follows established naval architectural scaling laws and demonstrates favourable hydrostatic stability and hydrodynamic response under sea state conditions in western Indonesian waters. With locally sourced uranium potential from Bangka Belitung and an operational lifespan of 60 years, this FNPP configuration presents a clean, scalable, and regionally integrated energy solution. Technical, environmental, and economic aspects are assessed to support future implementation.
