N2 - This study examines the evolution of Dayak Tribal House (RSD) architecture in the context of liminality in the post-modern era, focusing on the transformation from communal longhouses (Betang) to single-family houses. Using a qualitative approach and architectural analysis of Betang Antang Kalang in Tumbang Gagu and Betang Toyoi in Tumbang Malahoi, this study reveals significant shifts in the function, meaning, and spatial organization of RSDs. The findings show that modernization, government policies, and economic changes have transformed the RSD from a spiritual and communal center to an object of commodification and tourism. The concept of liminality in Dayak architecture shifted from mediation between the upper and lower worlds to negotiations between tradition and modernity. These changes reflect a broader transformation in the Dayak community’s social, economic, and cultural identity, illustrating the complexity of the challenges in preserving architectural heritage amid the demands of the global era.
