Abstract
As of the main island in Indonesia, Kalimantan faces a huge challenge in term of electrical system expansion. The distributed load and remote energy source are the main issues that must be highlighted during designing the transmission system. In addition to this challenge, the Indonesia government willing to increase the renewable energy mix. This willingness means to optimize the whole system based on a large hydropower potential. An interconnected transmission system is able to facilitate solutions for answering all those challenges. However, the electrical stability study is required to ensuring that a disturbance in the transmission system does not lead to a major blackout. Furthermore, the maximum clearing time of a fault might be determined from the stability analysis. This paper presents a comprehensive review of the stability study regarding The Kalimantan transmission system design. The study is based on a transient and small-signal evaluation to ensure system stability and resiliency. The presented investigation and insight might be helpful not only for The Kalimantan case but also any large system utility to leverage the transmission system in an enhanced way.
