Abstract

The aim was to determine the effect of different sources of water glass on geopolymer properties including compressive strength, apparent porosity, and acid resistance. The sources of water glass used in this study were Brataco (A), Sinar Mas (B), and Omya (C). Geopolymers based on fly ash was successfully made with variations in water glass sources. Geopolymers with the use of water glass A produce geopolymers with the best properties including compressive strength and acid resistance. The compressive strength produced after curing for 7, 14, and 28 days was 14.86, 30.79, and 45.65 MPa. The decrease in compressive strength after immersion in acid for 7, 14, and 28 days was 21.43, 31.04, and 76.75%. In general, the synthesis of geopolymers based on fly ash with the best properties can be obtained with SiO2/Al2O3 6.79, S/L 4.08, and Na2O/SiO2 ratio of 0.23.
