N2 - This is preliminary results of the experimental study about the effect of length of single curtain on the performance of Savonius wind turbine. The curtain arrangement was placed in front of returning blade of the turbine. There are 10 sizes of curtain plate were tested in this study, such as for the width of curtain plate relative to the diameter of rotor blade (SID) of = 1.00, 1.02, 1.03, 1.06, 1.11, 1.15, 1.41, 1.62, 1.83 and 2.00. The experiments are carried out for Reynolds number of 30,000 and 90,000 (based on the characteristic length of d = 2D-b and free stream velocity (U) from fan). The results show that, in general, the placement of the curtain in front of the returning blade of the Savonius wind turbine is more effective for improving turbine performance. This is not necessarily, but depends on the width of the curtain and the number of Reynolds (Re). The results of this experiment show that for the width relative to the turbine diameter of the wider curtain (SID > 1.41) at Re = 90,000, the power coefficient of the turbine with the curtain plate is less than when the turbine without the curtain. Where in this condition, the coefficient of power of the turbine (CP) with the curtain may actually fall to 60.8% of the turbine without curtain, for SID = 1.83 and Re = 90,000.
