Abstract

The watershed of 445 km2 is intensively used for agriculture and aquaculture. Benthic macroinvertebrates from 40 sampling sites were sampled. Taxa richness and several diversity and biotic indices were compared with the physico-chemical water quality and other chemical variables. Biological assessments based on benthic macroinvertebrates provide useful information regarding the water quality, but an appropriate method should be developed by including local taxa in the lists of systematic units and indicator groups. -from Authors
